Garden Tips For December

Christmas is coming and our gardeners are busy collecting the leaves and preparing gardens for christmas. With the sunshine hours reduced frost, rainfall and strong winds can damage plants and garden structures, so now is a good time to check:

• Make sure tree stakes are still holding, and tree ties are ok
• Fencing and other structures in the garden are at risk, so check they are secure (the weakest area is usually the base, as water can sit and rot can set in)
• Check outside taps are turned off and covered to protect them from the frost
• Moving trees and shrubs, but taking care to remove a large enough root ball
• Tidy leaves to stop the grass from getting damaged
